Style at any age: Daphne Selfe
What a lovely photoshoot of Daphne Selfe in El Pais - thank you Pinterest. Having just seen this and a picture of Madonna at The Grammys, I know which approach to ageing I prefer. Anyhow. The last time I met Daphne we talked about work and she laughed as she told me that her increased popularity has brought a few old friends out of the woodwork. Something the octogenarian model said as we were chatting, resonated, 'A strong sense of style becomes more noticeable as you get older,' and I've been thinking about this. A lot. How we streamline and fine tune our wardrobes - and how inspiring it is to see an older woman (or man) in the street, who is confident and chic and definitely not invisible.
Even better when they're on a magazine page.
Oh boy, what beautiful lady:) I love her long-grey hair. xoxo
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning...she has a remarkable presence.
ReplyDeleteShe is stunning...I love her hair. And she exudes confidence!
ReplyDeleteShe has such presence, and really knows how to work it. She's luminous.
ReplyDeleteShe looks stunning...and I agree with you...Madonna or Daphne? There's no question on which approach to ageing I prefer either :) The top photo is FABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
These are stunning photos of an extraordinarily beautiful woman. I think her comment reflects the fact that so many women feel they cannot continue to express their unique style as they age, or be as flamboyant as they would like, for fear of censure. Therefore, those who do (and thank God for them) stand out even more. I agree, it's hugely inspiring to see older women who are unafraid, either of aging, or of being noticed as they do it! Off to Google Madonna at the Grammys now, I'm out of the loop (again!) xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful woman and stunning photos.
ReplyDeleteHer posture, her expressive power and her confidence are admirable.
Annette
I love her look, her hair, her self-knowledge and her confidence. Long may she run.
ReplyDeleteShe is stunning. I just wish we could see what she wears on the street on a day to day basis instead of the photo shoot. I love what she says about style as one ages is MORE OUTSTANDING when one sees it on the street.
ReplyDeleteLovely post!
ReplyDeleteAnd the first photo is beautiful and inspiring.
Thanks!
She's absolutely stunning!

You know what I find equally beautiful to her amazing features? That, in posing, she wholly OWNS the room, not just the shot. Now THAT is confidence and style! I am certain she flows through daily life with just as much exuberance. How brilliant.
ReplyDeleteDaphne is gorgeous! I want to be her when I grow up! Thank you for sharing these photos with us.
ReplyDeleteShe's a terrific inspiration. Chic, confident and classy. That's how I want to age. I didn't watch the Grammies but I'll have to google to see Madonna. I'm guessing it's not pretty.
ReplyDeleteShe looks just stunning! Classy, full of self confidence and in a way I don't really notice her age because she has such a strong presence. Beautiful... xo
ReplyDeleteDaphne is a true beauty and I admire her as she leads the way with dignity, humor, self awareness and confidence.
ReplyDeleteClassic looks and very lovely
ReplyDeleteI always like seeing older people that aren't chic, but have an eclectic style. I've just turned 40 and while I've been chic, I've always had my own style and mean to keep it
ReplyDeleteBravo! Bravo! Thanks for posting this as I was just thinking Madonna has gone a bit too far & it's not flattering at all.
ReplyDeleteso lovely to see her beauty.....we should all be "pleased and proud" as we get older,to quote from my favourite film
ReplyDeleteOn my to write list is a post about on How Do We Replace Fertility? Ha! What I mean is that when we're young enough to have babies most of fashion is about highlighting our desirability, in one way or another. Once we can't contribute new people to society, I agree with Daphne, the sense of style has to take over, if we are to keep our visual impact.
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteStunning. A good reminder to step away from the Botox...
ReplyDeleteShe is stunning, but I do wonder why older women, without fail, choose to be photographed in animal prints. It is ALWAYS the leopard and snake prints...always. I find it odd, and slightly annoying, not sure why, lol.
ReplyDeleteDaphne Selfe leaves no doubt that she a strong woman who is comfortable in her skin. I love her quote, 'A strong sense of style becomes more noticeable as you get older' . It gives me some comfort about getting older, and hopefully one day becoming an octogenarian. Warm regards
ReplyDeletePrachtig!
ReplyDeleteHeel mooie dame!
